Las Venturas Playground 2.90 Race Builder
#11
I just spammed an idea in #management, and I found out not everyone was fully informed about the race builder. I still love this idea and hope it will be finished in 2.90 (any updates? :)).

I had the idea of having a "Race gallery" feature on the website for registered players. If we use MySQL for the custom races this would be very easy (although it wouldn't be that hard with regular files either). The race gallery could feature the most played races and a way to search for a race or search for the creator of a race. If you find the race you'd like to play through the "Most popular" list or via the search, you should get a page with all kinds of information about that race. First a large image of the race, with the checkpoints connected with a line (could easily be generated by php), and other information like who created it, when it was created, what type of car is used (with an image attached), how many nos you get and how many laps it has. For registered players there could be a "Play now!" button. If you press that button and go ingame the race starts immediately if you've logged in. (This times out after an hour, so if you forget about it you're not forced into a race if you connect).

A player ingame could search for a map by using /mapsearch [part of mapname] and start it that way. It might even be possible to be ingame, alt-tab to the website and press "Play now!" to start the race if you're back ingame, although I don't know how the link between the website and the server will go, possibly through Nuwani.

If every player can make a race there could be an extensive gallery on the site, making it more attractive for players to visit the website. At the moment I have no real good reason to visit the website, but a dynamic thing like this could improve visitors to the website.

Really lame 3-minute-photoshop impression below to give you an idea

The race data will indeed by saved into a MySQL database, but the only problem is is that I'm not too experienced in that field (Yey a challenge). I really like this idea, it should indeed increase the popularity of the website and if a Play Now button was enabled, it would rock!

Except for the saving / loading, the race builder is actually finished (the deleting, editing, creating, setting, etc). Apart from the general 2.90 bug fixing, my main priority at the moment is to actually get it finished. The only problem with making such a system on the website though is, do we have the man power to do it? I mean, I don't think many of us (especially not me :P) is that experienced with website stuff in comparison to Badeend / Peter, unless one of them two stepped in to help.

Yes we do have the power to do it ;) Either Peter or me will build something for it on the website.

Great! :) I totally forgot about something important; the highscores (top 3/5/10) should also be included on every map :)
