I remember seeing on this one show that one scientist predicts that the 2012 prophecy means that there is going to be a Polar Shift, where our north and south poles change position. He had some pretty good evidence but said it could be a possibility, not a definite. He said it has happened a lot of times before and says that it could happen on 2012 because it hasn't happened in such a long time. If that happens (I'm keeping an open mind about it since the evidence was pretty good but i'm not 100
, it would make Day After Tomorrow look like a simple thunderstorm. He said that Africa would get the least of the damage.
Another thing I heard has something to do with Planet X. Planet X has always been debated by scientists. A good amount don't believe in it and that is why it's not mentioned alot. I remember reading a book about it from the Library when I was little and didn't hear anything else about it until recently. Beforehand, The Mayans might have had some crazy traditions, but their Astronomy system was very Advanced. The prophecy of 2012 isn't really a prophecy in the normal respect. The Mayan Calender detailed from their beginning and ended on December 21st, 2012. That is where the prophecy came from. But what I heard was that Planet X is on an elliptical Axis (an offset Oval shaped Orbit) around the sun. It's orbit goes close to the sun and then passes through the orbits of ever other planet and continues far past Pluto before it turns back around to head back through the planets' orbits towards the sun. When it passes by a planet, it perturbs it (similar to what the asteroids you guys are talking about is supposed to do to us). It has been perturbing uranus, neptune, and more recently, Jupiter. I haven't looked into this one more than what I've seen and I'll post it here when I get the chance.
