You are ignoring the fact that MS is perfectly capable of making its on free OS. Maybe a light version of XP or Vista or any of the previous fantastic OS it has produced. The only reason it doesnt do it is because of the fair trading laws which disallows any one company to hold a monopoly. There is no doubt that if not for these laws, MS would crush linux and such OS. So MS uses linux to publish its own website. whopp-de-fucking-doo. Its only doing it to comply with the fair trading laws.

Yes MS is perfectly capable of making a free OS, no it has nothing to do with the trade laws. If it produced its free OS and didn't attempt to crush its opposition (like what it's doing with its vast amounts of money; the reason that they got in trouble in the first place) then a monopoly wouldn't be created. Coming from a technical point of view, Unix is the superior platform, simple as that. From the way it handles data and its structure all the way to its customizeablity make it the platform of choice for everyone from hardware to software developers, to science, to academia, to government, to businesses. Unfortunately for those not in the know, all they see is the pretty Windows ads and the "ooo~ I lauve to play teh gamez" but for us that need every ounce of power from our machine, Unix is the way to go (to limit it to Linux would be naive, all of the Unix type OSs). The good news is that the mainstream is starting to notice the power of Unix, so soon enough the gaming factor will be gone, har har.
