It's not really a "tech support" story, but I was on the phone a few months ago with my grandmother. She was trying to get her computer to work (a total computer noob). It sounded like she never closed any programs or windows and her screen was getting cluttered and it was running slow.
I tried to tell her how to close everything, and at one point asked her "what's on your desktop now?".
Her answer was "oh, a stapler, a cup of coffee, some papers........"
I just about fell on the floor laughing.
