The chicken and egg is made to sound like a paradox of some kind ... when it clearly isnt. Let OneManArmy educate you young grasshoppers 
The answer to the above question is : The egg came first. You see... Eggs were being laid even million of years ago but the specific species we have called chicken hasnt been around for that long. The chicken evolved from another species ... just like we evolved from monkeys... and started laying eggs.
Here is an interesting observation i was made aware of when i was a kid. almost every spcies ( as far as i know ) that dont have any visible ears, lays eggs. So that includes birds and fishes. The only exception to this are bats since they are not really birds but mammals.
