Very nice topic. Good idea, explanation, pictures etc. My compliments for that. 

I don't really know if your idea will work out though...
I've "raced" around that track lots of times with lots of different cars or other vehicles and I remember it as beeing pretty easy. You just hold down the accelerator all the time and make some minor steering corrections to keep the vehicle on the track. Nothing difficult.

My fear is that we will get a boring (drive-closely-behind-each-other-for-several-laps) race.
Nobody is waiting for that of course. A race should challenge the drivers, not the cars.
You also say: "but there was annoying traffic to avoid". Imo this added exitement instead of beeing annoying. 

But I'll approve it, so others can comment it too.
