Thank you for your suggestion.
There is currently an open feature request to allow for persistent gangs (e.g. after quitting and re-joining) which can be found here.
The gang system needs a re-write in several areas, in my opinion. For example, if you use the /properties command, you'll notice a pop-up dialog. Same with /race. That's a much fresher and more attractive way, and has the possibility to be interactive (e.g. double click on a gang to view members).
