You might be getting the wrong idea about it because of the pop culture. Mainstream "metal" bands are more than often not considered metal by actual metal music fans.
Growling is mostly a part of extreme metal, which is basically an umbrella term for anything considered "death, black, doom". That's a whole lot deeper already though.
Just like all music genres however, metal can have both "deep lyrics" and "whatever lyrics". The last example of my previous post does contain death growls, as well as regular, melodic vocals.
The video you posted is an example of what is known as death metal. It seems to be a parody band though. However, it all comes down to taste again. Some people like death growls, some don't, and others don't care. This is a great topic to discuss music, and hey, we're doing it. No one is hating indeed. As far as the 'Christian rock' thing goes, let's just say there could be plenty of nitpicking there as well. One band could be playing a more alternative style of rock, whilst the other plays pop rock.

It doesn't matter as long as you're enjoying whatever you're listening to. Some people care a lot about what they listen to, whilst others just want a simple tune they can nod their heads to. If you're really bored with your current music collection however, then don't hold back to explore new styles. There's plenty to discover.

Well said Maka I agree.

When I co-hosted radio station I explained how I got into Metal, With most people it starts with what your parents listen to and you evolve from that and find what you like, My mates friend posted a very good story how he found his taste which is really good, He listened to all your classic metal bands which he didn't mind but then found what he truly loves when he got the internet.

Kaboom the best way to find what you like is just to exploring and you will stumble across some good stuff some ways I do is sometimes look at bands I like and see who their associated acts are because they are normally around the same genre and I explore that genre for a while and see what tickles my fancy I have far to many genres to post because there is so much out there. If I had to pick my favorite genre I don't think I could stop at one because I listen to so much but would have to probably go with Maka and say Metal also because its just great, Another way I explore stuff is by talking to Maka, Maddolis, and few other "metal heads" in the topics we have and they post stuff to listen to and I have got into some great bands because of them.
