Mine was tried only with spawnweapons. It feels like I need to wait for it to pickup the skull again before I get the dialog back (~1ish second).
I'll try it right now and post results.
Edit: k, apparently it was just something weird last time I played, because now it worked with both Regular and Spawn weapons. Though it doesn't when buying armour.
