I don't know if any others know it, but this bug is still there. Sometimes even worse.
Yesterday the merchant wanted a Rustler (airplane). Pretty the same problem and ofcourse impossible to get it in the barn. Also later in the night he wanted a unknown vehicle from a unknown location near Los Santos. So I drove to rightunder the map and then went further with a boat. Somewhere on the middle of the sea there was the icon, but no car in the water or anything. He would've given me 2.x million dollar for it.
Oh, and like 10 minutes ago it required a Shamal............... _0-
