It's call sacrifice, and you can't excuse the Ghana player from missing that penalty shot that would have given Ghana the win. Clearly, Ghana did not train for penalty shots.
What happened there?
I was supporting all the South American teams no matter how shit they were, but come on, let's be realistic. Ghana played MUCH better in the extra's second time, and really deserved to win. Sacrifice? Sure, that's why the Uruguayo player stopped the ball from going inside the net with his hand, right? Asamoah missed the penalty, yes, that's something that will torture him for some time, but then again in the penalty shots round, he shot first and scored a great goal. I wouldn't certainly think they're not "trained" for penalties, actually it isn't such a religion, you're a national player, you're supposed to know how to shoot a ball (that's why they select the players who are gonna shoot) 11 meters away from the goal, given that's a very close distance if you make a distance / goal size relation...
Anyway, don't forget after missing that penalty Uruguay self-slapped and were really motivated, mind-pressure factor infludes a lot. You're not playing in front of 100 people, it's thousands in the stadium plus millions in the world.
