The CPU calculates everything, that is correct.
But to affect the ping today, you'll need a CPU from like uh, 2000...?

Intel Pentium 4 1.6Ghz HT or above, Or AMD Sempron 2200+ (1.8ghz) to run sa-mp.

Intel Pentium 4 2.5Ghz HT or above, Or AMD Athlonx2.

I got intel pentium4 3.2ghz HT, im looking forward to getting a new one eventually, when im less poor, somthing like Core2Quad.

But just on the sidenote, For a high model graphic card, you need a better CPU, so that CAN effect the FPS majority of the game.
