I like the idea. Had it myself some time ago, but never mentioned it. 
The problem with this would be players not doing what they should do, going after the other hydra's, but just flying around a bit or even killing other players with it.
But now with the new virtual worlds coming up, this problem can be simply overcome by starting that minigame in a seperate, private world without other players. We might also put a timer on to prevent people from flying around for hours, blocking the minigame for others.
Should not be that hard to create I think, so you also have my vote on this.
