[WIP] Island

It got a bit silent after the CTF map, but in the meantime I've been experimenting a lot with different kind of maps; bunnytrack maps, CTF maps and maps without any real purpose. The one thing I've been spending a lot of time on lately is an island. I'm a bit out of ideas honestly, I think we need to figure out what to use the island for before I proceed with mapping. First, a tour.

The island is a large, round island, with a mountain on top. The mountain is actually the top of Mt. Chilliad, but it fits perfectly.

First a bit of nature. On the front there's a campfire with a wooden log and a piece of rock to sit on (:+), on the back there's an oddly shaped terrain with a small forest on it. The forest needs to be expanded a lot.

Another view of the tiny forest. At the moment the objects seem to be randomly placed on the grass, I do plan to make it a lot denser.

... but actually they hide the opening to a 'secret' cave. The cave is only accessible from the water, and is not really notable if you don't know it's there. I thought it would be a cool easter egg.

If you made it through the cave, you find out that a large skull blocks the entrance of a treasure, the real easter egg. Again, I don't know if this is extremely lame or not, but I think it's cool :+ I'm not sure how you can get the skull to move out of the way, maybe some key combination or a secret command

And finally you get to the treasure, a large money bonus. This could be a katana too, or something else that you don't get easily in the main world.

Like I said before, the top of Chilliad is used to form the mountain in the middle. I didn't do anything with this, don't know if I need to either. Kind of depends on the map's purpose.

You do need a place to dock your boat, and this is it. Might look a bit messy here, but looks good ingame. The NRG-500's on the back are for testing purposes.

Finally another shot of the 'forest' part. I figured a shelter would be nice if this turned out to be a DM map.

Even if you don't like the hidden cave part, I do think a lot of the island could still be used. But for what? I came up with a few ideas:
  • For the Battle Royale feature request; a FR I posted a very long time ago, in Dutch I'm afraid. For those who've seen the movie you should get the picture immediately. For those who didn't: A large island with people randomly spawned on it. You get 1 (!) lame random weapon, but spread across the map are better weapons. The best weapons are on the most dangerous places though. To get a sniper rifle you need to get on the lighthouse, but to get on the lighthouse you're very vulnerable for enemy fire. It involves a lot of hiding, moving and waiting. I might get back to that idea one day.
  • A hidden feature that unlocks an achievement. Would be funny if people found the island by accident, without us advertising it.
  • A not so hidden feature, but just part of the main map (we need an object streamer for that)
  • A multipurpose island featuring some minigames like a DM, a boatrace, and at the same time be a place where people can teleport to

I really don't know what's a good idea, but I could use some suggestions before I turn the map into something everybody hates :P

If you guys like it, I'll setup a small server. I need some testing for badly placed objects and gaps.
