Thats a really good idea, to do Beverly Hills Cop.
Also Lethal Weapon could be done its kinda in the same league. For tips, i would say it depends what your movie is about, if you are recreating a moviescene like a chase (for example Ronald_McDonalds Terminator 2) it doesn't really need a storyline just some explaining before it. If you're going to do something on your own i would definetly suggest to have a storyline so it keeps people interested. But i think the really most important thing is the actors it's sometimes hard to get the job done.
