Well, those are obvious choices...

and Slayer only inspired some of the death metal acts. the other important thrash-influences are Kreator and Celtic Frost. The most important death metal bands though were Death, Morbid Angel, and POSSESSED.

no you're not understanding what i'm saying. I was talking about the bands that influenced death metal. I'm very aware of the big 4, as thrash metal for the longest time was my favorite sub-genre of metal.

and no Celtic Frost isn't black metal, what the fuck are you talking about?
