I haven't done MDMA before, but, assuming it's done responsibly, it's less harmful than alcohol for both the user and society.

Gotta agree with u on this. Many recreational drugs are actually less harmful than alcohol. But since in many countries most of those recreational drugs are illegal, u'll easily end up hanging with people who do harder drugs as well or know people who do. That way it's easier to get in contact with them and u might end up trying too. Here's a chart that was done by experts who are dealing with different drugs on daily basis (doctors, psychologists, scientists, cops etc.):

As u can see alcohol is somewhere in the middle while only few drugs are considered more harmful than that. Many drugs are as harmful as alcohol tho, so u can't really say all of them are less "bad". And many of those drugs are legally used prescription drugs so normal people still use them...

Absolutely true.
A couple of those mid-range drugs, like alcohol and benzodiazepines, have the worst withdrawl of all drugs, including heroin, meth and coke.
The only other class of drug with an equally bad withdrawl are the barbiturates- so if we look at the three of those, one is legal and readily available, and the other two are legal prescription drugs (though benzos are more commonly prescribed). There are some instances where I'd support the prescription of benzos, but generally I'd tell people to stay the fuck away. I wouldn't, however, tell people to stay away from hallucinogenics (unless they were anxious or paranoid in personality), and don't really care if people wish to do ecstasy. So long as they're not idiots about it or don't get carried away too far, they should be able to handle themselves.
