1.8 and older maps

Well the theories are true, it appears 1.8 is not backwards compatible with 1.7 and below maps, meaning maps that are drug into 1.8, will most likely look like this at the borders.

This screenshot was taken in my server, it appears it just cuts off into an ocean and all further parts of the map are below water.

Most (if not all) servers will be migrating to a new map for 1.8, and if not in 1.8, they will do so in 1.9.

I didn't think there was going to be a Beta 1.9? I thought it was going straight to release 1.0 (as in, not beta)

There will be a 1.9 beta, and then a full release, 2.0; although Notch said he'd not do anything special in the full release, it will just be a milestone.

1.9 very well may require different map generation also.

For me it's a bit more laggy than 1.7.
It's looks good loved the mines didn't saw any NPC village...

I seen a few, NPC's will be added in 1.9... tbh not really looking forward to them, what will they even do, lag up the server and walk in circles?!
