Nah, the hair growth rate and the thickness at the follicle doesn't change. It may seem like it because as the hair gets worn down from being outside the skin, the tips become thinner; but when you shave, the tips coming out of the skin are at full thickness and are stiff (prickly).
Holden, if you really want to show off your pain tolerance you should wax your chest.
