Your RAM aint the problem bro, its the CPU and/or videocard.

PS: Every, and by that  I mean EVERY PC lags while recording with FRAPS (unless you use an SSD as hard disk or an RAID bundle to increase hdd performance, like RAID-0).


The recording-lag isnt caused by your RAM/CPU or anything, its simply limited by your HDDs performance.

Hitman, isn't it also the amount of frames he chose for recording? I mean, if he decides to record 24 fps, he only experiences 24 fps while recording aswell? That's at least what I have experienced.

even if i'm not recording i still lag when i get closer to a place where there are to many players then i start lagging

Indeed, but look, normal "consumer" HDDs can handle around ~70MB/s of data (peak, usually between 50-70).  Special workstation HDDs or RAID-0 etc more, ofcourse, but speaking of normal user HDDs, the limit is around 50-70MB/s.

Now lets look:

With an recording resolution of 800x600, it would already be:  800*600 * 3 (colour bit depth) * 24 (fps) = 34,5 MB/s already. Seems cool, might slow down the game a bit but still is handable.

But now lets look a 720p HD movie -  1280x720 * 3 (colour bit depth) * 30 (fps) = ~83MB/s  - that would already be too much to handle for a normall HDD, and thats why its starting to lag like fuck.

(well the FRAPS inbuilt encoding codec compresses the files by 30-40%, but still, recording in a high resolution with comfortable FPS will cause lag. Unless you got an SSD which can handle that with ezzz)

Seriously, did you even read my post? It simply doesnt matter how good your PC is, unless you have a  normal HDD in it (which prolly have 99,99% of all people) it will still lag like fuck.

Your PC performance doesnt really matter for FRAPS (ok it shouldnt be some outdated singlecore processor and 256MB ram, but a halfway decent rig is enough).


Xfire and GameCam have a way better cam then FRAPS that doesnt lag that much, but GameCam doesnt support all games (dunno bout Xfire).

bluefox i already did that the disk defragment i'll try to do the task manager priority

the task manager priority doesnt work for all cpu's, just lettin ya kno, most cpu models above 2005-6 will work just fine with it
