I don't think so, I got my 4870 512MB on November 15th 2008 (over 1 year ago) and GTA IV (if that's what you meant) looked neat, not lag at all.

Hm, I'll decide. I'll probs get GTX 260 anyway, I know more about it and I trust Hitman more than you guys because he's helped me with EVERY computer problem.

The HD 4890 is comparable to the GTX 275 and the GTX 260 is comparable to the HD 4870, so why would you want to go with the GTX 260 instead of an HD 4890. Also, Im not sure about where you live, but based on prices here, the HD 4890 costs the same as the GTX 260.

Yeah thats the ATI HD 4890, same as the ASUS GTX 260. Why have I been told the ATI drivers fail with IV though? Oh and yes, IV is one of the 'top' game's I will be running.

I would suggest you search this up...find some GTA IV forums to ask this question on. You might aswell find out for sure before you make this decision based on what you heard a while ago.

I hear this yesterday by Hitman, but then again I don't know how trustworthy he is with ATI or AMD, he's an Intel man .

^^ Motherboard you suggested, and the HD4890, I think I may actually get the ATI Card, because the 260's are all out of stock, and I need to get it for christmas, and if they don't get it before christmas, then I wouldnt be able to get the card. I'll look up some GTA forums now.

Havent played IV since 1.0.4.0 but before that ppl with catalyst drivers had massive performanec problems, you can read that in every single IV forum you visit.

As I said before, I completed GTA IV's storyline some months ago. I admit that with patches lower than 1.0.4.0 it had a shit performance (for example, sometimes when you tried to switch between low and high lights in the cars the game froze for about 5 seconds or even more), but after I installed cracked 1.0.4.0 patch, the performance was flawless. I couldn't set everything max though because the settings are limited depending on how much VRAM your videocard has (512MB in my case), but I set it as high as my videocard could afford and it worked perfectly.
That was my experience though, Intel processor and mobo, ATI videocard. Now, if you are too afraid of getting shit performance, just go for the nVIDIA card

You can easily avoid the vram limit (howto: is in my GTA IV sticky thread in the IV subboard here).
The VRAM usage that IV recognizes is complete bullshit, for example in my settings it says its 1400MB (removed the restrictions) while its actually just using 850MB. (out of my 896MB)

How do you check vRAM usage?
