Textures - ooshie - 02-28-2008 I was wondering how everyone feels about custom textures for LVP. I know this isn't somthing that will enhance gameplay, but I think it will add that "This IS Las Venturas Playground" feeling, if you catch my drift. Things such as changing all the "Grove St. 4 Life" tags to "LVP 4 Life", like I have in my sig. picture. Changing some posters to screenshots of the Dev Team..really anything we want. I got this idea from another server that had their Police cars textures change to other colors, with the servers logo on the side saying "ThisServers PD". Here's a few examples. I just threw them together in photoshop, so they arnt that great. ![]()

We can't use too much datatraffic (considering MTA already uses alot) so alot of custom textures aren't really an option. If we are going to do this, it has to be designed really well and preferably a little more sophisticated than the example you just showed. Next to that, I don't have any experience with modifying textures and such, someone else would have to do that. Well, that's what I was thinking. I have some experience with it, and looking into it even more. Being that I'm new to the game programming thing, I tried to come up with somthing to do while I'm still figuring it all out. Thought this might be a cool little addition to LVP.. Re: Textures - pdescobar - 02-28-2008 I did some experimenting with custom textures in MTA a little while ago and at the moment, the support isn't that great in dp2. Right now they only seem to work with custom models (either a replacement like with a vehicle or an addition for custom-placed map objects.) I simply could not apply a custom texture to an existing map object through MTA as the function would always fail. While it is a neat idea, it's something that should wait until MTA has better support for it and, as Peter said, it has to be used sparingly since all clients will be downloading the files when they connect. |
