Private Messaging - dab - 02-27-2008

I sort of thought of this cool way of private messaging that is totally possible.

Since we all know that the chat doesn't have scrol bars to be able to see messages you miss, we could move pms to its own window.  A button (or command) to show your main window of pms.  Sort of like email, but for ingame.  It would be cool to be able to access those messages outside of the game, somewhere, as well as pming people from out of game. Perhaps allowing VIPS to access pms out of game.  Then they'd want to donate to get out-er game pms. We'd probably need to use MySQL to store these pms, and keep track of how many a user has, to keep the database from getting too full.

So what are your views? Think of it as PM 2.0
I'm typing this at school, so I'll add more this afternoon if I can think of anything.

I think the fast /pm needs to continue to exist, but as a seperate messaging system I think this is quite cool.

And I don't see why viewing your PMs online should be VIP only -- extra storage to hold more than 50 PMs or something should be a VIP feature, in my opinion.

Right, that's what I mean.  Let's say I type /pm 4 Hello, how are you?

Well, that pm will go into that user's inbox for them to read, and they will have a small notification, either by pop-up on the bottom of the screen, or in the main chat.  The user can then Choose to read it now, or wait untill they have time.  This way if they are in a fight, they don't have to be distracted from it.

That could be a possibility as well. :)

Please mind that this has to be implemented in the Communication resource, of which no contents have been written so far. I'm going to work on the gang-/admin chat as soon as I'm done with the spawn handler, so it might be in your interest to wait just about a day or so.

Re: Private Messaging - [Griffin] - 03-31-2008

I think it would be cool to have 3 different ways of sending messages.
1. The normal /pm command for short conversations
2. an email system
3. an instant message system
1. is quite obvious on how this would work. 2. is a little more difficult. Like dab said, there would be a database of emails (messages), and maybe a limit of 50 or so. You can send a email to anyone thats on the server or is disconnected. 3. would be more like the /call command except it would be in a GUI window, which could be slide off and on the screen with a binded key. you could also make this a lot more detail. Make it like a instant message client. you would have to login and have a buddy window, which would show all your buddies (Friends). You would be able to add players as friends and block them as well. This would be a nifty tool if you like to have an instant message with another player, as well as to be able to talk in the main chat box or anything else. But there could be objections to this too.
