Would Crime drop tremendously if IT was Legalized? (for certain countries) - Lynexon - 02-04-2008

I personally don't see why Marijuana is illegal in the U.S.  It is the least harmful of any "drug" (since it isn't normally modified like coke or heroine or made like crack, X or pills, i don't consider it a drug since it used to be a listed herb), and is especially less harmful than Alcohol, and isn't as addicting or near as harmful as hard drugs  Scientists have proven it yet it is still illegal.  Honestly, when is the last time you ever heard of someone getting stoned and beating the hell out of his wife?  When is the last time a mother got stoned and beat her kids?  Also, alot of people wouldn't have permanent records of getting caught with a joint in their teens.  Alot of people I know who do it are peaceful people and aren't crazy or stupid.  I want to hear ppls thoughts on this.

uhm....even though i dont do drugs, isn't this kind of self explanitory?. If it was legallised, people who were caught doing it wouldnt be doing anything illegal, therefore, the crime rate would drop?. Its like saying if we scrap every law known that the crime rate would drop by 100%

If it were legallised, then more people would use it.
As drugs have an... 'adverse' affect on people's mentality, causing them to cause crimes (assault, robbery- most people who can't financially support their addiction use robbery to cover it, etc etc) then that's the point.
Although marijuana barely causes those- it's more the harder drugs such as heroin, cocaine and Chuck Norris sweat.

Weed is pretty harmless in my opinion. It's a form of socializing in some ways and helps relax people when they smoke it or such. It's natural, and has little to no downsides.

A great person who spoke about the positive effects of drugs was Bill Hicks. He said:

Quote:To make marijuana against the law is like saying God made a mistake. It's like God looked down on the seventh day at the world, his creation perfect and holy in all ways. "Now, I can rest. Oh my me.. I left fucking pot everywhere! I should never have smoked that joint on the third day! Shit! If I leave pot everywhere it's going to give the impression they're going to use it.. shit. Now I have to create Republicans.."

Anyway, a lot of that is simply humour, but there is some truth behind it. Marijuana isn't man-made or such, it's natural and doesn't cause much long-term damage as long as you smoke it responsibly. Aye?

Marajuana is illegal in the United States because the government would have trouble taxing the use of it.
