Cyber war is here! - MoHiT[Dx] - 01-20-2012

For those who are unaware of the situation and are unknown to SOPA
SOPA
Today, the FBI had closed the www.megaupload.com domain (megaupload, megavideo, megaporn...) accusing it for copyright violation and money laundering.

Would be great if those organisations' power were limited to those websites, but, using a metaphor I read yesterday, it's like vandals spraying graffiti over McDonalds posters. DDoS attacks are kinda pointless when it comes to those websites- while on the plus side it may show them that there are passionate people out there willing to fight against this oppression, it also scares old people into voting for legislation that will only further oppress us. If they were to obtain particular information from these websites and use it against them, it could perhaps be used more effectively- however that is both far more difficult and such information may not even be found there.

Funny thing is they closed Megaupload without SOPA being even approved, and they can close other sites without the need of this so famous act. So what is this bullshit about and why hadn't they started doing it before?

Because it takes longer, whereas with SOPA being a passed bill can force a site down without all the "red tape" getting in the way.
