I just like how Minecraft is. Despite the poor graphics of the game, it still has attracted a lot of people because it's "fun". No need for outrageous, extreme, amazing graphics. It's simple and nice as the way it is :)

Well to run it on CryEngine 2 would clearly be rape, but pixel shading shadows if done correctly doesn't take much video resource. However Minecraft uses openGL, I'm not sure if such shading techniques are possible with openGL.
