Going to Oxford? - Tuism - 09-15-2011

If I got full grades like 99.9% and made my way to the top 10 in the whole country (UAE), would I get a scholarship from Oxford university or should I do other stuff like sports, music or art? or there's no way through to Oxford from the middle east?
I have real shallow knowledge about studying abroad, is there anyone here who have gave it a shot or even got to Oxford being non-British?

To get in most universities you need several (about 5) GCSE grade C to A* (they're also called GCE in other countries...they're the grades you get when you finish school). You also need a level 3 qualification in a subject (like a college BTEC or National Diploma). Until this year if you had the level 3 qualification the GCSE grades wouldn't matter. Now most unis require them.

You also need what is called UCAS points. I can't remember the requirement but it's over 300 last I checked.

You being foreign shouldn't be too damaging, in fact if you want to go to England then I don't see you struggling too much, they love foreigners in this country.

I can't say too much about Oxford university in particular, as I'm sure that and the other top universities have higher requirements, but what I said are general requirements.

Be aware that universities, as well as being strict on requirements, they're also incredibly expensive, and that's only the tuition fee. For us the new limit is £9,000 for a tuition fee. Not every university (or course) will charge the full amount, but because the people in charge are greedy Tories they like to milk you as much as they can. I don't know if the tuition fees are different for those outside the country, or EU.

Yeah lol, the tour guide was uber proud to explain to me how Oxford students never even have to leave the campus, since everything they need is right next to the Uni building (even a church, lol). Tbh I wouldnt like to be trapped on the same fucking campus for 3 or more years in a row with barely any time to get out. The Trinity College had a really really nice campus, gotta admit that, but I wouldn't want to study there. The mentality there just isnt one that i'd be happy to adjust to.

@TwistedDemon, you should probably know that there is no such thing as a "Oxford University". Oxford has 36 (or 38, iirc) Colleges in which you can study. Your final exams will be in some great hall or whatsoever, and if you pass you get your certificate of the University of Oxford. But you study in one of the colleges, theres more than thirty. I visited the Trinity College for example.
