bye bye windows? - Tuism - 06-15-2011

I'm hearing a lot about linux these days, has anyone tried it after using windows?
is it good for graphics design and gaming?

I don't have a lot of knowledge about Linux, but I'm pretty sure it's not a great OS if you plan to play a lot of games :+

Well I used linux for a while, and to be honest you can get most games running fine. Also, GIMP and Photoshop both run absolutely fine (PS CS1 at the time, should still be OK) so graphics isn't really a problem.

The main problem is with things that require .net framework and things by Microsoft to run... such as Sony Vegas (which is why I went back to windows).

You can run most windows programs using the Wine emulator which is free and easily downlaodable. Also, you can search for a program to see how well it runs on this website.

It does take a lot of getting used to though, as you'll need to install a lot of things using command line and such.

Random selection to give you an idea of what will work (I don't know what games you play, just a few common ones):

Linux is more if you're a coder... I don't see it playing many games anytime soon.

Photoshop CS, After Effects CS4 and Blender 3D are the only programs that I use, games only CS 1.6 and samp
I think they do run on Linux but i'm more concerned about the speed, would I have less or more fps on samp for example?

Re: bye bye windows? - Hitman - 06-17-2011

sinec you'd have to emulate it, less.
