Half-Life 2: Deathmatch costs 4.99 USD and is free at the same time.

If you use one of the Nvidia or ATI promo codes the game is for free (basically that means its free for everyone).

The difference to the version that costs 5$ is that the $5-version comes with the Source-SDK Base. (which allows you to play all HL2 Mods such as insurgency, zombie panic source and dozens more).

You cant play the HL2/Source mods with the free HL2DM version. if you just want to play hl2dm and dont need the mods, use the free one

One of my friend told me that he couldn't download HL2-DM for free. Is it still able to download for free (for Nvidia) ?

Yup,  www.steampowered.com/nvidia#

Doesnt contain Source SDK Base tho, therefore cant play hl2 mods
