Countries need to be careful with nuclear power and nuclear power stations, but right now for many countries there is no other option at hand than using nuclear energy.
Whats happening in Japan is horrible, although they did their best to design their nuclear power station in Fukushima. From what I have read, the station there was built to be safe up to earthquakes of a strength of 8.2 in the Richter scale. That this earthquake happened to be 8.9/9.0 is unfortunate.
Lets hope the "Fukushima 50" or however you want to call them are able to fix as much as possible, they deserve to be honored and remembered when they die of cancer within the next few months.

Until theres an reliable power replacement for neclear power it'll be around, at least for the next decade i'd say if not longer.
I see that more and more countries are investing in green solutions such as wind farms to power homes but in order to generate the power needed your gonna need a shit load of wind turbines, which at the moment just isn't really possible due to recession and cost. So yeah I see nuclear power being around for the foreseeable future.
The only thing I think is the way forward to get rid of neclear power is nuclear fusion but again until it becomes possible to use nuclear fusion it'll be nuclear power.

the reason shit went wrong in japan was cuz their plants lost energy for cooling it down, and instead of asking other countries for help right away (getting cables with electricity pulled to it) they tried fixing the shit theirselves which didnt work. all cuz they were too proud to ask for help directly. so much for being the most hitech country in the world and still being so dumb

I've always been all for nuclear power. I think the main thing keeping us from using it (besides the money made from oil) is fear. It would be pretty hard to defend a power plant, even if it was protected by walls and the sky was guarded, and the buildings were made from the toughest materials known, terrorist groups will find some way to get to it.

Nuclear power will always be around. It will just keep getting more sophisticated and better. For example, right now, well over half of what is getting produced is actually for the trash can. With the fourth generation (right now they're actually still with the third generation, and in most countries, just like Japan, still the second) it will be improved dramatically. Though I could dig further into this subject, I'll leave the Wikipedia link here for those interested.

By the way, nuclear power was even way more dangerous during the sixties than it was in the eighties during the Chernobyl incident.
