Cheapest PC ever made. - g3344 - 11-12-2010

Guys I'm not very good a building crap computers and wanted some assistance.

What I need is a PC that can do this:
1. Run MS office/excel etc
2. web browse
3. store a fuck ton of images
4. display these images without extreme lag
5. no gaming required at all, nothing demanding like photoshop/video editing etc.
6. not a laptop

I need it to be cheap as possible since I'm building it for a friend in college that just needs a really fucking cheap PC that he can use for basic shit like web browsing and power point/excel/word/storing his photos.

Cheers.

Buy a really cheap barebone bundle.

This usually includes:
-Case
-PSU
-Mobo
-PCU
-Sometimes RAM.

Buy a huge ass HDD, like 750GB or something

Buy about 3gb of some cheap DDR2 ram if the mobo has DDR2 slots, if its cheap it should. (If it didn't come with RAM ofc).

Fuck the gfx card unless the mobo's built-in graphics really do suck ass.

Get cheap keyboard and mouse.

Get a cheap 17" monitor.

Hmmm, I hope i didn't miss any components. Can't think straight.

May I ask why it can't be a laptop?

You can get laptops for 300-ish euros (and I'm not talking about eeepc's)

I suppose having a laptop for college would be more useful than a desktop

Best option is custom built of course.

-Scaled in USD-
Processor: A small AMD Athlon 2.4ghz should do, unless you want to go multi core.

Harddrive: Buy a custom one, around 500gb-1tb (about 30-80$)

Motherboard: Any AM2 biostar would do.

Graphic card: You said not gaming performance, Radeon x800 - x1600 would do for your standard needs.(Like 15-30$)

Case: w/e your choice.

RAM: Well I would say do with DDR2, mainly because it's very cheap, and comes in decent quality. 1gb is about 18$, 512mb is like 8$, your choice really but it will mean you need a DDR2 motherboard.

Power supply: 400w supporting a 20+4pin and SATA power cords. (10-20$)
