Homeplugs - Phyc0 - 05-02-2010 A homeplug converts your household electrical wiring into a network with a transfer rate of up to 200Mbps, depending on which product you buy. Full product features are below: Quote:Product: http://maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48539 From what I understand, you connect one of the plugs to your router/modem using an Ethernet cable. And the other plug you can plug in near your XBOX, PS3, TV, etc. It's just to boost your existing wired/wireless Internet connection - so you obviously already need your own modem and ISP. If any of that is wrong, please correct me. So does anyone already use this? Would you recommend it? ![]() - Frequently Asked Questions - Reviews Above reviews and FAQs are based on this product. Re: Homeplugs - XiZ - 05-02-2010 naw. i just use a cable, which i plug into the back of my pc, to get my interwebz Re: Homeplugs - Phyc0 - 05-02-2010 Most people do, XiZ. Not everyone has an ISP which can provide them up to 200Mbps of data transfer, though. If it really does what it says it does, I may buy a product like this. Re: Homeplugs - Matthias - 05-02-2010 Does this work for laptops too? Where exactly do you plug it in? Re: Homeplugs - Hitman - 05-02-2010 its dLAN, you plug it into your normal power plug, and its shitty (tried it here aswell)... as shitty my WLAN is, im still better of with it then i was with dLan Re: Homeplugs - Phyc0 - 05-02-2010 From what I understand myself, you plug in one of the plugs into the wall and connect it to your modem/router using a Ethernet cable. Any other devices you wish to connect to the network, you can - by plugging in the other plug next to them. How does it work? Basically, you're sending your current Internet connection through the wires around your home at super speeds. As the data arrives at plug #2, the signal is much stronger than it would be if it was connecting wirelessly to your modem/router. As for Laptops, there are similar products you can consider. Like the Develo dLAN Wireless Extender. Here's a video of a guy setting it up and using it to increase the speed of data transfer. Devolo Homeplug Wi-Fi Extender Hitman, tell me more... Why wasn't it successful? In every other review I've read the customer gave positive feedback. Re: Homeplugs - Hitman - 05-02-2010 yeah, but what they dont say is that you fucking lose your connection everytime you use your electricity alot (like, turning the washing machine on) and it takes 10 minutes till it reconnected... and that happens like every hour dLan might be a good idea, but atm its bugged as fuck unless they changed and improved the technology a lot, cos i used (well, TRIED to use) it in 08 Re: Homeplugs - Phyc0 - 05-02-2010 I had those concerns too, but in the FAQ it said there shouldn't be any problems when you use other electrical devices. After all, it's designed to work with other devices which require an Internet connection. Appliances like kettle, oven, washing machine - I'm not sure. I better get back to reading some more reviews... ![]() I would have thought the technology would have came on a fare but after 10 years of products like this being on the market. Re: Homeplugs - Matthias - 05-02-2010 Or try this, worked great for my laptop: Simple way to Increase Your PS3 or WIFI connection Went from 2/5 to 4/5 (connection thingy @ laptop, dunno how you call it) Re: Homeplugs - Richard - 05-02-2010 I've been using homeplugs for months now, barely have any trouble. I've been without internet for a few minutes maybe 3 times due to the homeplug(wireless still worked on my laptop but computers using homeplugs didn't have any internet). Works great here, no trouble with it failing due to usage of other things using electricity. Hitman just fails! |
