MSN... - Munch - 12-04-2009 Okay so I tried hijacking Mark's thread but then it just died and no one cared... MSN told me I needed to update in order to use MSN, so I clicked yes and then it would fail to update. I try again about 3 times but then I go and download a new version of MSN (with the update already there) and after it gets to 100% complete, it fails. I try a couple times with that, and with different mirrors but still no luck. I came up with the idea of uninstalling MSN completely, and all features, but when I went to uninstall Windows Live Messenger I got ''fatal error'' but before that shows up, I just get this: (I used Add or Remove) ''a network error occured while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\install_(508ce7754ba4-4748-82df-fe28da9f03b0).msi'' I uninstalled other MSN related features first, but that did no good. I got CCleaner and tried with that, I got the same error but then the Windows Live Messenger thing never appeared in the list. Before getting CCleaner, I tried deleting the folder completely, not uninstalling, then tried uninstalling but I get the same error, and MSN still loads up fine (and appears in the Add or Remove list to uninstall). I've tried everything and no luck, and ebuddy sucks arse. The main problem now is the uninstall bit, then perhaps the new version will actually install. Any ideas? Thanks for any help
Re: MSN... - Hellweed - 12-05-2009 well i got lucky when i had this.. my laptops useraccount cudnt load properly so it gave me a temp one without any programs that i had installed. then i just simply dled msn and restarted my laptop. u can also do it by doing the factory default thing but i guess msns not worth it ..still gl fixing it tho Re: MSN... - Munch - 12-05-2009 (12-05-2009, 03:54 PM)Hellweed link Wrote: well i got lucky when i had this.. my laptops useraccount cudnt load properly so it gave me a temp one without any programs that i had installed. then i just simply dled msn and restarted my laptop. Well that's no good for me because I've downloaded it 3 times. Forgot to mention the filename of the MSN I downloaded is wlsetup-custom.exe if it helps. Re: MSN... - XiZ - 12-05-2009 you should just get the msn from here: http://download.live.com/ that one should work. if u have tried this already, i dont know what else can be done other than using another chat programme. I tried getting a couple uninstallers but so far none of them work. ZapMessenger just sits there saying it may take some minutes, even though it's been on for a long long time. I managed to get rid of it completely, and installed the new version (Ugly or what?!) but now it says service is temporarily unavailable...the fack's up with it now? I tried an old account I used to use for spam (still works, not expired or anything) and same message...and it comes up immediately. The latest version said service is temporarily unavailable. I'm still trying to find ways around it, including downloading the latest version a couple more times incase it's the file or something... You see this is one reason why Microsoft fail so bad! Edit: I've tried another download (from the same place, the same download name and everything) and still no luck. I still get "Service temporarily unavailable" Re: MSN... - Munch - 12-29-2009 *BUMP* *DOUBLE POST* Okay the problem's still here, and ebuddy's getting on my nerves. When I download Messenger, I got the latest version from a friend, still gives that "Service temporarily unavailable" crap. When going to Tools > Options > Connections, at the top it says "You are currently not connected to .NET Messenger Service. Any idea how to fix this? Does it mean I need to update my .NET Framework? I haven't updated it, like, ever, so maybe it's that? And if so, can anyone tell me the latest version (XP Pro compatible)? Also, my XP Pro (not proud of it, but it was already here) isn't a legit copy, so preferably a .NET Framework that doesn't detect it? (Don't go posting anything illegal though, if need be, PM me it). Thanks for any help. Just download .NET Framework 3.0 - not sure about 4.0 as it's beta. http://www.computerbase.de/downloads/software/betriebssysteme/microsoft_net_framework/ Oh, do you have SP3 installed? Re: MSN... - Munch - 12-29-2009 Yeah I got SP3. I'll try that now and edit this post for the results. Stupid Microsoft site never works, haven't done for a couple days. When I click on a download mirror, it just gives the "Address Not Found"... Anyone happen to have an updated .NET Framework that they can upload to uploadFFS or something? |
