Try /server irc.gtanet.com when you're connected. If that doesn't work try another IRC server

Maybe a Firewall is preventing you from connecting to the server? I believe when I installed mIRC for the first time, I had to "Unblock" it in Windows Firewall or something.

God_Of_War, when it gives the 'Unable to resolve server' error, although not shown in the second picture, doing what you just said won't help...he should have them channels saved as favourites and have join on connect activated...and if it was the problem that he wasn't in a channel, he'd still connect.
