Some old Need for Speeds have the 2player mod.
NFS III has it.

really old but still the best of the series: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
has a really _long_ singleplayer, many hours and is just the best of the NfS series
(and i THINK you can drive in COOP with splitscreen.. but im not 100% sure)

Ultim@te racing pro. Never mind the extremely lame title, it's a fun game and runs perfectly on old computers. Playing it over LAN is possible.
