Sometimes, I return to windows for a bit, but when I get back, the game crashes for some reason. is it fixable?

That will always happen, no fix available. Although, if you move your mouse up and down the pause menu and resume game, it's less likely to happen (at least for me).

If you have vista, and the game freezes on the pause screen, you need to set compatibility mode to XP. (find gtasa.exe, right click, properties, compatibility tab, select XP from the drop down menu, click OK)

I do the exact same thing because it lowers the chance of me crashing from being on the pause menu for too long.
