HL2 is an awesome, awesome game. Worth its money. The free deathmatch is fun for a while but gets boring really fast. I usually played co-op (players vs a shitload of bots), but it's a bit repetitive. Lost coast is just one level for half life 2 showing off new features of the engine, interesting but short.
But since most of it is free, just give it a try
