Computer Build - FarePak - 01-15-2009

Hey, Im looking to build a computer soon and I was seeing if these parts are ok, and oh I dont really feel like having a intel system

These are the parts im looking to get:
Processor:
AMD Phenom II x4 940 / AMD Phenom II x4 920
Motherboard:
ASUS M3A78-T
GFX Card:
ATI Radeon HD 4850 / ATI Radeon HD 4870
RAM:
Corsair PC2-6400 DDR2 4GB
Power Supply:
Corsair 550w

I have my own plans for DVDRom and HDD, and on some of the stuff above i've shown two things because im on a budget and still thinking what parts to get.

ps. Intel/nVidia fans fek off

Re: Computer Build - Fireburn - 01-15-2009

I would go for the 4870, and just get some cash elsewhere, but best price/quality is 4850 afaik, but the 4870 is still lot better than 4850.

Re: Computer Build - Hitman - 01-15-2009

Well i cant force you to buy an Intel, but you would get more performance for the same price with a P45 Board + Intel Q9550 instead of the II X4 940 and a AMD 780G/790FX board.

But its basically a good configuration.

But if you want to overclock, i would choose intel. My Q9550 E0 runs fine at 4x 3.6GHz without increasing core voltage.

If you do not want to overclock, you can choose both, you wont notice a difference.

So if you like AMD more, buy it. Its your moneys

1,

You know that amd 790gx board is MUCH better then a p45 board?

you most have a x48 atleast to compare a 790gx board.

2,

The new phenom overclocks very well, it has ben up to 6,3ghz. Witch is more then they have reach with core i7.
to reach 3,6 ghz is no problem at all. You can get 4ghz with stock air cooler.

Re: Computer Build - Hitman - 01-15-2009

mjaa, i know you are some AMD fanboy, but did i ever, EVER mentioned a 790GX board? No, i mentioned 790FX.

The GX board costs much more here in germany.

PS: to the i7 thing, i have seen valid CPU-Z screenshots over 6.6GHz, and also far more than 6.5GHz with yorkfield CPUs like Q9650 or Q9550. but let us discuss that thing somewhere else, topic is his new computer, and if he wants AMD that build is fine.

Re: Computer Build - cloakster - 01-15-2009

There has not yet been a side by side comparison for overclocking the i7's and Phenom II's on air. They have only tested it with LN2 and water cooling with the i7 coming out on top for the water cooling and Phenom II for the LN2. Because of this you can't really make your CPU decision based on overclocking.

If you are not going to be doing any stressful other than gaming then i would suggest to go down to a dual core and use the saved money to get a GTX 285. For the dual cores, Intel owns, so you will have to set aside your hatrid for Intel and get a Core 2 Duo.

Please let me see those CPUZ screens please.

Because the record for i7 seems to be:

1 : duck reached 5579.98 MHz with an Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 (45 nm)

http://valid.canardpc.com/records.php

Like you can see on the link the AMD has abit higher freq.

You did say amd 790 g/fx board.

Thing is,  fx board arnt so bad that either. It can easy compare to a x48 board.

But farepak has clearly write thats he want a ASUS M3A78-T  board.

Witch is just a GX board.

About i'm a amd fanboy,

Sure, i like amd better. But i still buy whats best for money..
I got a intel you know, witch i bought 1 year ago.

But i'd take a amd phenom 2 if i would buy a new cpu today.
