2038 - The bug. - Turkey - 08-22-2008 You may've heard of the bug called 2038: Quote:The year 2038 problem (also known as "Unix Millennium bug", "Y2K38," "Y2K+38," or "Y2.038K" by analogy to the Y2K problem) may cause some computer software to fail before or in the year 2038. The problem affects Unix-like dating systems, which represent system time as the number of seconds (ignoring leap seconds) since 00:00:00 January 1, 1970.[1] This representation also affects software written for most other operating systems because of the broad deployment of C. On most 32-bit systems, the time_t data type used to store this second count is a signed 32-bit integer. The latest time that can be represented in this format, following the POSIX standard, is 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, January 19, 2038. Times beyond this moment will "wrap around" and be represented internally as a negative number, and cause programs to fail, since they will see these times as being not in 2038, but rather in 1901. Erroneous calculations and decisions may therefore result. TevoxZi link Wrote:Hi there, in 2008! The latest date you'll get is January 19 2038 if you edit a quote. What do you think?
Re: 2038 - The bug. - Peter - 08-22-2008 Internally we've switched to 64-bit signed integers about five months ago, so Las Venturas Playground won't be affected by any bug until mid June in the year 292,471,210,647. See you thenĀ

Re: 2038 - The bug. - tomozj - 08-22-2008 #care -- do you really think we'll be using 32-bit machines in 30 years? Fat chance. Lets look towards 64-bit machines, or even 128/256 in the future?
Re: 2038 - The bug. - Felle - 08-22-2008 That's like when someone said everything would collapse in 2000 because no computers were built to deal with the first number of the years (which would go from 1 to 2). Nothing happened that time though... at least this one is somewhat true and has a logical explanation. Re: 2038 - The bug. - Danny - 08-22-2008 So far only admins have posted in this topic, lets keep it that way! ![]() Oh wait... Anyhow, this topic is confusing I dont understand?
Re: 2038 - The bug. - Ben - 08-22-2008 Then read the topic. That usually gives you an idea about whats going on. Well, at least the computers are saved Re: 2038 - The bug. - Jay - 08-23-2008 (08-22-2008, 11:13 PM)Ben link Wrote: Then read the topic. That usually gives you an idea about whats going on. But not in this case ![]() Anyway, It seems to be the Millennium incident all over again. Re: 2038 - The bug. - Maddolis - 08-23-2008 Another hocus pocus conspiracy. The only time all the computers in the world will be destroyed is when Chuck Norris runs out of humans to kill.
