[Feature] Area51 Semi-active surface to air missile - Jay - 07-23-2008

As I specifically remember this suggestion was planned for 2.x anyway. I remember somebody (possibly Peter) writing up a ticket for it in the old trac.

Anyway, basically when a player flies over Area51, a SAM missile gets launched at him/her. Infact to be honest it was only last week that I made this very system (as a filterscript) for my ww3 server, fully tested and it worked fine!

The SAM object should not actually be a rocket though, since it is too, "detailed". It should simply be the flashing object that gets launched out of a rocket launcher as normal and destroys on impact.

Features I think should include:
  • Limited explosion time - To make it more realistic, after the SAM has launched and is following you, it should explode after say, 20 seconds or when you leave Area51 instead of following you until it booms (I'm only noting this because other popular Sam systems did this.
  • Proper "locked on" SAM sounds - Yes it is supported in SA:MP
  • Exploding vehicle on impact - When the SAM actually hits your plane, instead of it damaging it, it should explode it instantly!

I'm not sure about the exploding instantly. I'd like to have a chance to run, and I find it more fun when you get hit by a rocket and then you spin out and crash into the ground. Way cooler.

And I'd like to note that admins in the admin vehicles shouldn't be affected by this -- or anyone with vallow. However in regular planes.. maybe.  :>

Hmm, good idea, tj. Was about to say that it had a downside, the adminvehicles are in Area 51. But vallowed people/admins not shot » fine.

But that would also be realistic -- only Area51's own vehicles are safe. :Y)

To be honest your probably right now that I think about it about exploding on impact, if you just create the explosion near the wing or something I guess that could work.

Well, just randomly explode a little to the left or right, so that your right wing doesn't go every time.

what about the AT-400? if you fly over area 51 in single player there won't be any missiles fired because there might be other people onboard, maybe it's possible to do this ingame too? :D


EDIT: those missile launchers can be destroyed if you toss a nade near them, is it possible to disable a sam launcher after someone destroys it? :+
