Yes, apparently FIFA was alarmed since their script didn't go as planned (a.k.a. an "unknown" team managed to beat two big ones and knocked out another big one), how can that be possible??? There must be some fishy about that Costa Rica. According to something I read (I have no idea on the subject to be honest), FIFA normally takes 2 or 3 players to dopping control tests, but in this case they sent 7 Costa Ricans, with the shitty excuse that they did this because they hadn't sent the players before the tournament started. Well done FIFA.

Australia did well because they were underdogs, and they actually had a 1-2-0 history against NL (which has now become 1-2-1).
Most fans expect to be kicked out in the group stage so there's nothing to lose, thus nothing to be disappointed about.
