Well yeah, it's hard to control as they will probably fly anyway if we're not around.
If solely used for building (I think it's not too hard to notice if they are or not), should be fine.
If they stay within a chunk or 2 and build there, no problem. But if they really use it to explore, it is.

Mind if i bump this?

A player (LobbyZ ofc) was advising a new player that client side fly mods were okay to use. After i asked him not to advise new players to break the /rules, we got into a lengthy debate. I stuck to the principle that as long as rule 6 of the /rules states that client side fly mods are prohibited, then that is the rule enforced.

I am aware that leniency is offered within this issue when the culprit is using such a mod to assist their ease of building. I'm also aware that its an absolute NO to explore using such a mod.

My question, if a particularly persistent individual insists on receiving a definitive answer, what should I advise?

*edit*

Further to this, what is the possibility of a fly plugin that restricts a players flying speed to walking speed, much like  magic carpet but without the glass floor?

This is the one rule that confuses us all. Personally, I want to have the fly mode from creative replace MagicCarpet all together. However, about a week ago thiaZ said that this is not possible. I would be interested to know however if this has changed since then. I will look more in to this at a later date. The way I tend to respond to people asking is “I’ll look the other way if you’re just building with it”. It was stated earlier in this topic, but the main issue that I personally have with fly mods is that they can easily be abused, and perhaps not even purposely. The creative mode fly mod is much slower, and thus makes it more difficult to cause issue with. This is why I personally feel that we should work on implementing the switch from MagicCarpet to Minecraft flying. I really don’t understand why such a feature would not be available, but what do I know.
