x = 1

Actually its like this :D

x = 0.99999

10x = 9.99999
10x-x = 10(0.99999)-0.99999
        =9.99999-0.99999
        =1

Actually no, Peter's was the correct way of putting it.

9.99999-0.99999 doesn't = 1.
You skipped the step where you needed to put 9x = 9, and then you could simplify to x=1.

yeah...? well? I know that 1+6 = 16 8)

Law of arithmetic equality: a=b, iff a-b=0.
And now what we have: a=1, b=0.99999.., so a-b=(0.00001..)

So, it doesn't work.

Seriously?

Epic fail.

Now read my message again and take these dots into account, I didn't include them because they look fancy.

But I'm not yet complete.

Actually, what Peter said was, believe it or not, correct.
        .                          __
1=0.99 just as much as 0.13 = 13/99
The numbers 1 and 13/99 aren't infinite, but the others are.

Its just limiting infinite numbers.

This topic is giving me a headache, I'm going to stay out of it for now.
