And if I interpret your sentence that your brother got you into some metal, he's being an angel for redeeming you.
Personally, I like some metal bands, especially prog rock/metal such as Dream Theater and Symphony X, but also bands like Judas Priest. Blind Guardian ain't bad either.
Other than that, 70s and 80s rock and pop, Queen and Duran Duran enjoy a good listening.
