Mine also broke, and I failed @ repairing but I then got a slim on ebay for £180

This is the same as the 360's towel trick...it will most likely just be a temporary fix. Though, if its out of warranty, its definitely worth trying.

Have had the same problem 10 day's ago and just bought new ps3 slim
