Excuse me to crash the party here, but why do we need Steam? I buy all games (original copy, of course) for a cheaper price than in Steam, so if anyone's so kind that would give a guy who never touched Steam in his life an explanation.

I'm not all for Steam, but it does have a few nice options.
For example, you can just download and install your game on any PC.
