I'll risk it , and try that rivatuner later. :O

Re: Overclock. - Hitman - 01-14-2009

RivaTuner rulez.

Overclocking FTW, its just fine, i overclocked my CPU  from 4x 2.83GHz to 4x 3.6GHz and my videocard about ~15%, still everything with standard voltage.

If you want to go higher and higher with videocard-overcloking, download "nibitor" and modify your videocard BIOS to set more Volt on some things to get the OC higher - but i wouldnt recommend it to n00ne, since he has no idea of computers.

The "Overclock" on your card box just says that its overclocked by factory, that they increased the standard performance a bit.

i overclocked my 8800gts core bus from 513 to 650 and memory bus from 792 to 950  :w (about 20% increase in performance)

Its not a 20% increase increase in performance, more like 4-5 FPS increase :P

well think about it.. i was getting 27 fps in crysis on very high without AA now i overclock it and i get 32-33 fps so thats a huge difference in small fps.. <30 lag 60> no stuter or anything
i say 30 is min for any game and 60 is only needed for very fast paced games.. San Andreas is fine at around 50 Gta 4 is playble at 30

Re: Overclock. - Hitman - 01-14-2009

Well, even with my hardcore PC i turn details down in multiplayer games, because i have to have more than 60 FPS in online games.

In singleplayer i can play very good with 30-50, but online action has to be  _ultra_  smooth

Re: Overclock. - cloakster - 01-14-2009

Going from 27 to 33 FPS is not an increase of 20%. Your playing on the same settings and only getting 6 FPS more. Going from playing on medium + no AA at 27 FPS to very high + 2x AA at 27 FPS could be considered a 20%, but not just 6 FPS at the same setting :P. That's like saying going from a 8800GT to a 9800GT is a 20% increase in performance.

The thing is that maybe you get 33 FPS most of the time, but it will drop sometimes and usually it will be during combat scenes where it matters so imo, 33 FPS is too low to be playing at.

33 fps is an average sometimes it dips down to 30 but never less and is perfect for crysis, it has motion blur which makes game look perfectly fine even in intense action  :P. Btw 8800gt and 9800gt is exactly same thing but 9800gt eats less power i think check any hardware forums

btw going from 27 to 33 is exactly 20% increase in same settings (was very high no AA) 27 divided by 100 times 120 = 32.4  8)

now if i had higher fps for ex 60 than i would have an increase up to 12fps increase if overclocked the higher the fps you're getting before overclock the more of an increase you will get.

I know that 33 is 20% higher than 27, but i mean that its not 20% more in terms of the overall performance. If your comparing two cards, you dont say one is 20% better because of a 6 FPS dif :P If it was 20% more powerful now, you would be able to run it with at least 2x AA :P

The 9800GT performs a bit better than the 8800GT because of the small hardware differences between the two.

Re: Overclock. - n00ne - 01-15-2009

Scream , haven't even overclocked and i get 70+ fps in crysis on very high/high settings. o_O
