i have a problem with my computer.
lately, alot of popups shoot up on my computer at one time.
which is annoying because when im playing LVP it stops because of the popups.
And when i go back in it says ERROR, like a timeout and i have to start again.
does anyone know how to stop the popups?

Virus scan your computer :)
It is possible that you could have a virus.
I had something like that, but it cvame up with, Windows Service Message or something, it was really annoying, that's what influenced me to install windows vista.

That problem what you described Time. with 'Windows Service Message' is easy to fix, if I'm right. If you click start - run, then type "msconfig" and press enter. Then you see a lot of options like startup and services (not sure if it's exacly named like that). You can turn off many things and I thought there was also an option to turn 'Windows Service Message'.

Another tip for users who want to make there boot faster:
Go to startup at the place what I just desribed. Then you see a list and many things can turned off. You just have to check that turn the non-important things off. Good luck with it. ;)

Right ok where to begin
1. i installed the mcfee virus scan thing, which i think worked
2.Now my computer goes very very very slow, for example, as i am writing this, the computer freezes quickly and then catches up and it takes at least 8 or 9x longer to open programs
any advice?

Ben, you should also try AVG Free edition, i've used it for 2 years and it's found and destroyed every virus i have gotten.

This problem could also be caused by spyware. So i would download Spybot Search and Destroy and dl Ad-Aware SE. After it scans, make sure you know what files you are gonna delete because sometimes you could have an important Windows files infected.

If XL is right, you can disable them this way:
Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Doubleclick "Messenger" -> Set "Startup type" to "Disabled" and click the "Stop"-button.

If that's not the problem, please post a screenshot.
