I guess for the text, you can put a pattern overlay, or any overlay and set it's opacity to 0%.
Then you could merge and rasterize those layers and add the stroke/shadow, then add the bg :)

I don't really know what you mean fat0?

There are a few options for transparent letters:
- Changing the blend mode
- Changing the opacity
- Mix from above.
